Titanic, Anatomy of a Giant

On April 14, 1912, the Titanic sank in the icy waters of the North Atlantic. But beyond the famous shipwreck, there is a much lesser-known adventure, yet one just as incredible as its legendary fate: its construction. 110 years after the tragedy, this documentary revisits the genesis of the most mythical ocean liner of all time. Never before had such a ship been imagined, so gigantic, luxurious, and faster than any other. Never before had such a construction project been undertaken. For three years, more than 15,000 men worked day and night in the Belfast docks, specially adapted to become the largest shipyard in the world. The Titanic pushed all the boundaries of shipbuilding. An enormous gantry crane and a floating crane capable of lifting loads of 150 tons were specially designed for the project. The Titanic itself is a marvel of engineering: its unparalleled dimensions, its double hull of riveted steel plates, its watertight compartments, its hydraulic system and its revolutionary propulsion are all innovations that contributed to making it a masterpiece of naval architecture. Using never-before-seen colorized archive footage, exceptional 3D graphics, and insights from the world’s leading Titanic experts, delve behind the scenes of this cutting-edge construction site. An extraordinary adventure that will lead it to its tragic fate.
